Theseus and the Minotaur

King Minos of Crete, as retribution for the death of his son, had ordered fourteen young Athenians sacrificed every nine years to the fearsome Minotaur, a creature with the head of a bull but body of a man who lived in a complex labyrinth in Crete. Theseus, an Athenian determined to stop the sacrifices, set out to slay the Minotaur. He found his way to the creature through the maze and killed him after much struggle. Theseus made his way out of the labyrinth with the help of Ariadne, King Minos’s daughter, who had fallen in love with him.
