Workshop: Portraiture

The portraiture course is a weeklong workshop on the techniques and approaches to drawing a portrait. The goal of the course is to build a foundation on how to render a portrait as well as providing an underlying understanding of head structure and features.

Each day will focus on a different aspect of portrait painting, from the study of head anatomy, to color palettes, angles of a pose, different types of models and varied methods of approach. There will also be a good amount of drawing concepts that will be covered as well, such as proportion, foreshortening and chiaroscuro. By the end of the course, students will have a varied and solid foundation in creating an expressive portrait.
