Marsyas and Apollo

Marsyas and Apollo

Marsyas was a satyr who picked up the double flute (aulos) that had been abandoned by Athena. Marsyas became so good at the aulos that he challenged Apollo to a contest of music, where the winner could do whatever he wanted to the defeated. Apollo won the contest and then proceeded to flay Marsyas alive.
